Fairmont Senior completed a remarkable postseason run with a 21–12 victory over Independence to capture the Class AA state championship.

Entering the playoffs as a No. 16 seed, the Polar Bears won six consecutive elimination games to secure the title, becoming the first No. 16 seed to win a championship since 1995.

Germaine Lewis led Fairmont Senior with 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a key 38-yard scoring run that extended the lead in the second half.

Dom Stingo threw for 174 yards and connected on a 59-yard touchdown pass to Evan Dennison, while the Polar Bears’ defense forced critical turnovers to maintain control late.

Independence battled throughout behind strong rushing performances from Atticus Goodson and Judah Price but was unable to overcome Fairmont Senior’s defensive pressure and time of possession in the fourth quarter.
