In a dramatic season opener, Bridgeport secured a hard-fought 47-44 victory over Fairmont Senior, sealed by a crucial defensive stop in the final seconds. Trailing by a single point with five seconds remaining, Fairmont Senior’s Darrell Claybrook—who had dominated the game with 28 points—drove for a potential game-winner but slipped, allowing Bridgeport’s Gavin Williams to knock the ball loose and secure possession. While the Polar Bears relied heavily on the individual heroics of Claybrook to stay within striking distance, Bridgeport utilized a balanced attack and defensive grit to control the game. Williams and Aryon Dodd led the Tribe with 11 points each, while senior Sam Romano contributed four steals to a defensive effort that Coach Dave Marshall credited to team trust and resilience. The win serves as a confidence-building start for a rebuilt Bridgeport roster that is looking to defend its state title after replacing four starters from last season.
