Bluefield came within seconds of capturing its 12th state championship last season. Now, the Beavers return a loaded roster with their sights set on finishing the job in 2026.
After a 3-2 start, Bluefield won eight consecutive games to reach the Class AA state championship for the first time in six years before falling to Frankfort, 49-42.
Head coach Fred Simon enters his 41st season with five returning players who earned first or second team All-State honors as sophomores, including standout offensive lineman Ethan Thompson.
Division I prospect Max Simpson returns for his third season leading the offense after throwing 40 touchdown passes and nearly 3,500 yards as a sophomore. He'll have plenty of weapons back, including All-State receivers Pax Calhoun and Jaleel Jones.
The Beavers also return 1,000-yard rusher Jeremiah Jones, while senior Willis Wilson is back at full strength after an injury cost him more than half of last season.
With experience across the offensive line, explosive playmakers at the skill positions and one of West Virginia's most accomplished coaches leading the way, expectations are once again high in Bluefield.
