Balanced offensive attack leads Elkins over Grafton, 35-7
Sports
Elkins High School rebounded from its first loss of the season with a decisive 35-7 victory over Grafton, improving their record to 5-1 and matching their win total from the entire 2024 season. The Tigers established a 21-0 lead by halftime, scoring on their final three possessions with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Nathaniel Sauerwein to Xavier Workman and two rushing scores by Logan Beam. After Grafton scored in the third quarter, the Elkins defense made a pivotal stand, holding the line after a potential Grafton touchdown was nullified by a penalty, a moment head coach Chad Ware described as the game's turning point. The rushing attack, led by Logan Beam with 128 yards and Jaden Hatfield with 124 yards, sealed the win with second-half touchdowns from Hatfield and Anthony Sylvester. Workman also made a significant impact with two catches for 70 yards and a goal-line interception late in the game. The victory comes ahead of a challenging two-game road trip against one-loss teams in North Marion and Fairmont Senior.
