The midway point of the 2026 regular season has arrived, and Week 5 delivered pick-sixes, explosive returns, last-second heroics and one spectacular leaping touchdown catch. Count down the 12 best plays from across West Virginia in this edition of MetroNews Top Plays.
No. 12 — Morgantown: Lyric Blake powers ahead for a 9-yard touchdown, one of his two scores in the Mohigans’ 49-20 victory over Spring Mills.
No. 11 — Bluefield: Max Simpson flips a pop pass to Jamarius Smith for a 10-yard touchdown as the Beavers earn their third consecutive victory, 22-13 over Independence.
No. 10 — Tucker County and Cameron: Legend Harper intercepts a pass and returns it for a Tucker County touchdown. Cameron responds as Talen Brown breaks loose for his fourth touchdown of the game in the Dragons’ 42-6 victory.
No. 9 — Huntington: Marek Midkiff delivers a pass to the back of the end zone, where Jaxson Seals gets a foot down for a 21-yard touchdown in the Highlanders’ 50-15 win at Woodrow Wilson.
No. 8 — Martinsburg: Boston Todd returns an interception 25 yards for a touchdown as the Bulldogs shut out Jefferson, 52-0.
No. 7 — University: Harrison Helbig shovels the ball to Hayden George, who races down the sideline for a 40-yard touchdown in the Hawks’ 56-14 victory at Fairmont Senior.
No. 6 — Pocahontas County: Griffin Taylor keeps his legs moving through several would-be tacklers and powers into the end zone during the Warriors’ 28-14 win over Richwood.
No. 5 — Oak Glen: Maddox Bowen escapes the pocket and finds Chase Hartung, who holds on through a major hit for a 36-yard touchdown in a 41-14 victory over Buckeye Local.
No. 4 — North Marion: Kolson Brown connects with Jacob Kucish for a 10-yard touchdown in the final seconds. The ensuing extra point gives the Huskies a dramatic 41-40 win over Lincoln.
No. 3 — Petersburg: Parker Metheny fields a kickoff, reverses direction and races 67 yards for a touchdown—one of his four scores in the Vikings’ 39-35 victory at Moorefield.
No. 2 — Sissonville: With the Indians backed up at their own 1-yard line, Cooper Nooney recovers a fumble and takes it 99 yards for a touchdown in Sissonville’s 42-14 win over Ravenswood.
No. 1 — Martinsburg: Brian Dick launches a pass toward the end zone, and Christian Irving climbs the ladder for a tremendous 36-yard touchdown catch.
