In a dramatic Sun Belt Conference quarterfinal, second-seeded West Virginia narrowly avoided elimination against No. 7 Old Dominion, advancing 5-4 on penalty kicks. The Mountaineers, who led 1-0 at halftime thanks to Isaac Scheer's first goal of the season, found themselves trailing 2-1 late in regulation after a pair of ODU goals. With just over a minute left, Pablo Pozos scored his team-leading eleventh goal off a set piece to force overtime. After two scoreless extra frames in difficult, windy, and rainy weather, the match went to a shootout. Goalkeeper Marc Bonnaire made two crucial saves, and sophomore Isaac Scheer converted the decisive sixth-round penalty kick to seal the victory. With the win, WVU (12-3-3) secures a spot in the semifinal round and will host No. 3 seed Marshall on Wednesday.
