The No. 16 WVU men's soccer team has demonstrated significant scoring prowess to begin its season, improving to 2-0 with a 4-0 victory over LaSalle. The Mountaineers have now scored nine goals in their first two matches, with senior Marcus Caldeira and forward Pablo Pozos each tallying three. In the win against LaSalle, Caldeira scored twice, moving him into a tie for seventh place on WVU's all-time scoring list with 31 career goals. The team benefited from playing a man up for the final 54 minutes after a LaSalle player received a red card, though Head Coach Dan Stratford praised the opponent's effort and felt the card was harsh. Thijs Veldhorst and Bryce Swinehart also scored, both assisted by Ethan Dekel Daks, as WVU dominated with a 26-4 advantage in shots. The team now prepares for a tough stretch of games, starting with a road match against No. 21 Akron.
