The West Virginia University women's soccer team secured its first win of the season with a dominant 3-0 shutout victory over Akron at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers completely controlled the game, holding a 19-0 advantage in shots and not surrendering a single corner kick to the Zips. Abbey Olexa opened the scoring in the 17th minute with what coach Nikki Izzo-Brown called a "banger" of a goal. Leading 1-0 at halftime, WVU put the game away early in the second half with goals from freshman Ava Arnold and Taylor White just three minutes apart. The performance, which Izzo-Brown praised for its organization and tempo, allowed for extensive use of substitutes as the team now prepares for its first road match of the season this Sunday against No. 14 Penn State.
