The Martinsburg Bulldogs, ranked #3, claimed their 10th state championship in a dominant 57-13 victory over the #5 Princeton Tigers in the 2023 Class AAA title game. Despite a slow start, the Bulldogs unleashed a 28-point second quarter, fueled by quarterback Murphy Clement's rushing and passing prowess.
Clement led the Bulldogs' offensive onslaught with 210 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries. He also threw for 82 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Kashez Gedeon for both scores. The Bulldogs' defense proved to be a formidable force, sacking Princeton quarterback Chance Barker seven times and holding the Tigers to just 6 rushing yards.
The Tigers, making their first Super Six appearance, showed early promise with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Barker to Dom Collins in the first quarter. However, they were unable to maintain momentum against Martinsburg's relentless offensive and defensive pressure.
The Bulldogs' victory extends their remarkable streak of winning 10 consecutive state championship appearances dating back to 2010. This victory further cements Martinsburg's reputation as a powerhouse in West Virginia high school football.
