Sissonville closed strong to advance in the Class AA State Softball Tournament.
The Indians scored the game’s final four runs, including three in the sixth inning, to rally past Independence, 4-2, in South Charleston.
Trailing entering the sixth, Sissonville grabbed the lead with back-to-back RBI hits from Lydia Ellis and Bella Alexander before adding an insurance run on an error.
Jozey Wilson tossed a complete game in the circle, striking out eight batters and retiring the side in order in the seventh inning to seal the win.
Independence received a strong effort from Jenna Joyce, who also went the distance and struck out seven batters.
Sissonville advances to the winners bracket semifinal round in the Class AA state tournament.
