Defending state champion Oak Glen is moving on in South Charleston.
The Golden Bears exploded for 18 hits in a 12-3 victory over regional rival Weir in the opening round of the Class AA State Softball Tournament.
Brayley Lash led the offensive surge with five RBIs, while Mattie Carney, Lash, Danica Holden, and Marleah Lough each collected three hits.
Oak Glen scored in six of its seven innings at the plate and got a strong performance in the circle from Carney, who struck out nine batters in the complete game win.
Weir mounted its best threat in the fourth inning with RBIs from Logan Barton, Zoe Spencer, and Illiona Kirklangitis, but the Golden Bears quickly pulled away.
Oak Glen advances to face top-seeded Logan in the winners bracket semifinal.
