Top-seeded George Washington is moving on to the Class AAAA state semifinals.
The Patriots carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and defeated MSAC rival Huntington, 6-1, in a state quarterfinal matchup at Jack Cook Field.
Ty Nettles dominated on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while helping George Washington build a lead that grew from 1-0 to 6-0 over the final three innings. Ryan Anderson closed out the victory in relief.
Luke Gordon and Eli Smith each drove in two runs for the Patriots, while Jon Fala and Joel Nelson added RBIs as GW improved to 30-5 on the season.
Huntington broke up the no-hit bid in the seventh inning and loaded the bases before Anderson escaped the jam to secure the win.
George Washington advances to Friday's Class AAAA semifinal as the Patriots continue their pursuit of a state championship.
