Greenbrier West opened the 2026 season with an emphatic response.

After Wirt County scored on the opening drive, the Cavaliers answered with 39 consecutive points and pulled away for a 45-19 victory at Herbert Hoover High School.

Isaiah Coleman scored twice in the first half, while Shane Plogger changed the game with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown that gave Greenbrier West a lead it would never surrender.

Ben Butler then took over after halftime. He scored on a 20-yard run, added a 40-yard punt return touchdown and broke free for a 61-yard score in the fourth quarter. Scott McClung also found the end zone for the Cavaliers.

Wirt County was led by Adryon Hartford, who scored twice, while Luke Hickman connected with Andrew Lemley for a 39-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
