No. 4 Winfield got revenge on No. 2 Herbert Hoover with a big 6-3 road win in Elkview, powered by a dominant performance from Mattie Carroll in the circle.
Carroll tossed a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as the three-time defending state champion Generals jumped out early with three first-inning runs and never looked back.
Brooklyn Cole delivered two sacrifice flies, while Carroll helped herself with an RBI double. Emeri Nelson and Rylee McClellan both posted multi-hit games for Winfield.
Herbert Hoover had defeated Winfield earlier this season, but the Generals answered in the rematch between two powerhouse programs that have combined for eight state titles over the last nine completed seasons.
