Jason Huffman talks about looking at the numbers from the boards of education to see just how many kids are enrolled in public school in WV. In their research, they found that only 55% of the spots open for students in the state are actually taken. In Kanawha County there are enough openings for students that all the school aged students in the state would fill those spots except for Berkley County. Statewide, the ten counties with the emptiest seats account for 44% of all unused capacity. Six counties are operating buildings that are, on average, a little over a third full.
