The Roane County High School football team is looking to build on their record-breaking 2024 season, where they went 13-1 and reached the Class AA championship game. The Raiders had a dominant playoff run at home, winning three games by at least 21 points each. Head coach Paul Burdette praised the community's support and the team's excitement after their success.
Despite significant graduation losses, especially in the backfield, Burdette is optimistic about the new talent. The team's three top rushers from last season—Lane Watson, Shay Harper, and Clay Walker—accounted for a combined 4,184 yards and 60 touchdowns. New players, like junior Koltyn Starcher and senior Garrett Brabham, are expected to fill the power-running roles, while Brodey Proctor and Javon LeTourneau will take on the "shifty" roles. The offense will once again be led by veteran quarterback Jacob Greathouse, who has started since his sophomore year and will likely see more carries this season. The offensive line, a key to the team's success, returns three starters—Colton Elliott, Hogan Greathouse, and Richard Greathouse—and will be bolstered by new additions Quinton Cooper and Braxton Browning. Burdette believes the team has the potential to replicate their previous success, noting that there's "no reason" they can't "go do it again."
